Childbirth education is an underutilized tool that has been shown to improve health outcomes for mothers and babies. Some of these benefits include:
- Increased patient safety
- Improved health during and after pregnancy
- Increased family engagement
- Increased health literacy
- Increased rates of breastfeeding initiation & duration
- Significant short & long term benefits for mothers & babies who breastfeed
- Patients are more satisfied with their care
- Decreased postpartum complications
- Decreased health disparities
- Decrease in unnecessary cesarean births, both elective and unplanned
- Reduced health care costs
However, this tool remains inaccessible to many people in our community. Barriers to education may include language, financial, geographical, and other group specifics such as age, religion, or culture.
With the help of our community, Nativitas seeks to make this valuable tool accessible for all pregnant individuals and families.

How?
Community Benefits
This model creates benefits that extend beyond the immediate family and well into our community. Healthier families are healthier employees, students, and community members. Childbirth education lowers health care costs to all stakeholders.
Creates Jobs
Childbirth educators earn anywhere from $25-$50 per hour and are often self-employed or work for various hospital organizations. This career path does not require a degree or prerequisites, though the training is comprehensive and rigorous. It is a small financial investment and affordable certification to maintain. The rewards are endless.
Healthier Parents
Parents who participate in childbirth education have healthier outcomes than those who do not participate in childbirth education. Research consistently shows that childbirth education improves mental health both during and after pregnancy. It also improves breastfeeding initiation and duration which has short and long term benefits for both moms and babies. The risks of cesarean and postpartum complications are reduced in parents who participate in childbirth education, whick lowers overall health care costs.
Healthier parents return to work/school with fewer sick days.
Healthier Children
Parents who participate in childbirth education have babies with fewer complications, and who are more likely to breastfeed. Breastfeeding has short and long term benefits for children making them better students, with fewer sick days. Breastfed babies have fewer sick visits to the doctor, reducing costs and missed work/school days.
