BabyMoon Destination & Education Packages

What's a BabyMoon?

Family Trees BabyMoons are a weekend-long, high quality, comprehensive childbirth education course held at a beautiful, vacation destination location.  This program provides for deep connection, childbirth education, parenting and postpartum preparation, and a last-get-a-way-opportunity before baby arrives.
Note:  Our BabyMoon packages are appropriate for single parents and couples.

BabyMoon Schedule

Friday evenings 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Celebrate Pregnancy Class
This class is for pregnant people only.

Saturday & Sunday 9:30 am - 3:30 pm Lamaze Childbirth Education
This class is for pregnant people and their non-pregnant support person.

Why Lamaze Education

Historically, Lamaze has been known for well-known breathing techniques.  Today, Lamaze has grown to be the leader in childbirth education, focusing on the most current evidence-based practices in maternity care,  empowering families to make informed choices regarding the birth of their baby.

Lamaze education and practices are based on the best, most current medical evidence available. They can help reduce the use of unnecessary interventions and improve overall outcomes for mothers and babies. Working closely with their families, health care providers and Lamaze educators, millions of pregnant people have achieved their desired childbirth outcomes using Lamaze practices.

The mission of Lamaze International is to promote, support and protect natural, safe and healthy birth through education and advocacy through the dedicated efforts of professional childbirth educators, providers and parents.

Forming the foundation of the organization are the Lamaze Healthy Birth Practices. These evidence-based practices, adapted from the World Health Organization, promote, protect and support natural, safe and healthy birth.

Private Lamaze classes help parents navigate the labor process, empower you to make the decisions that are best for you, practice a variety of comfort techniques, and give you the tools to have the safest birth for you and your baby.  Partners learn practical tools for supporting the laboring person.

Most hospital based childbirth classes are pre-purchased, generic, childbirth curriculum that is carefully edited to fit provider preferences.  Family Trees Lamaze classes have been created by our highly respected, nationally known educator, and serve to empower families rather than make them compliant patients.

We believe parents should be able to make their own choices when all information is presented fairly and based on current research.  Our families form close bonds that often last beyond the childbirth class.

Picture
Wendy Trees Shiffer, MS, FACCE, LCCE
Mother to 4.  Doula to hundreds.  Educator to thousands.
Wendy is the Program Director and Instructor for Family Trees Birth Programs.  Her exciting and dynamic teaching style make Family Trees classes and seminars fun and energetic.

Wendy earned a Masters degree in health with a concentration in midwifery and women's healthcare and undergraduate work in education.  In 2015, she was inducted into the prestigious Fellowship of the Academy of Certified Childbirth Educators and earned Lamaze Accreditation for the Family Trees Lamaze Educator program.  She is currently pursing a doctorate in adult education.

After a 15 year career in early childhood and art education, Wendy answered the call to work with childbearing families.  She became a certified doula through DONA International and worked for more than five years as a birth assistant in the local Amish and Mennonite communities.  She has supported hundreds of mothers as they've welcomed their new babies into this world.

As a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator and Program Director for Lamaze, Wendy provides empowering education to parents and professionals.  She consistently receives glowing reviews from her students and coworkers.  Wendy has taught at major hospital systems and universities throughout the United States and has trained childbirth educators from around the world.

Professionally, Wendy is involved with research and a published author in a peer-reviewed journal. Shas guest lectured at several universities including Penn State University and Notre Dame University in Maryland.   Wendy was the featured speaker at the regional AWHONN meeting and presented at the Lamaze International conference in Fort Worth, TX (2011) and Pittsburgh, PA (2019).

She proudly represented her state by lobbying for better maternity care on Capitol Hill in 2017, holding appointments with five members of congress.  Wendy is passionate about addressing the healthcare disparities that exist within the United States maternity care system.  She thoroughly enjoys sharing her love for labor support and education with other birth professionals.

Above all else, she is most proud of her four children.
